This seminar will focus on supporting early career researchers such as graduate students, postdocs, and early stage faculty, as they navigate NSF proposal writing (postdoctoral fellowships, GRFP, CAREER). The panel will include professionals such as NSF program managers, university deans, mid-career professors with experience shifting language, and mid- to late-career government researchers who have experience with administration turnover.
The September forum will convene subject matter experts to explore efforts to measure, assess impact, and address emerging contaminants such as microplastics and PFAS. In a facilitated discussion, the panelists will examine specific challenges, innovative methods, and new areas of study as researchers and practitioners work to address this complex water quality issue.

This seminar will focus on how to identify key skill sets and develop new ones necessary for a successful career outside of academia. Topics will include guidance on finding non-academic jobs, resume building, interview preparation, and expanding your professional network.
GEOPAths GO Jamaica, an NSF-supported program led by PIs Rowan Martindale, Melissa Kemp, and Ashley Matheny, Associate Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the Jackson School of Geosciences and CUAHSI board member, brings U.S. and Caribbean students together with researchers and local experts to study and protect Jamaica’s unique coastal ecosystems. Students gain field, analytical, and leadership skills while contributing to collaborative conservation efforts and cultural exchange.
